Third-World Debt: 6 Reasons To Drop It.
Third-World Debt is EVIL! This video is made by Crittenden County Middle School students of StudentActionNetwork.org. The info from the video was ...

is the number of population here on earth greater than the value of debt third world countries have?
The debt is larger. As per the following link, the total debt of the third world counties is around $2.3 trillion, whereas the human population is just 6 Billion.

examples of countries with third world debt, and why they are in the debt?
If we forgive the debt owed by third world countries what's to stop them getting into hock all over again?

Does the West have a moral obligation to cancel third world debt?
Over the past 50 years the west have invested in the third world with loans given at high rates. As a result many countries are struggling to repay these debts, thus hampering their development. Therefore should we cancel the debts and start over?
I'd like to see a world where people just help each other - when someone needs help - and forget all this monetary value placed on ... everything. That's the MORAL thing to do.
How come I can fed children in starving third world countries for just dollars a day?
AND send them to school for just a bit more, while I shop for groceries at Wal Mart and my food bills are STILL high....AND my parents are in debt for paying for my private schooling?
They're not eating lobster, for one thing. Their schools may take place under a tree or in a simple room with almost no supplies and taught by a volunteer or by someone getting a standard wage for a third world country.
For another thing, these organizations get a lot of help from corporate donations of money and products (like food), and your money is added to that. Also, in third world countries, some things are considerably cheaper that you are used to seeing.
Maybe you've heard of it?
If you don't have much, then a supplier cannot charge much.

World Debt?
I'm doing a project for my Contemporary World Problems class about the US national debt, but I'd also like to find out the debts for other countries. So far, I've only been able to find it for the UK and third world countries. If you could give me more countries' debt and site your sources (textbook, encylcopedia, etc), it'd be much appreciated.
See the link below for Public Debt as a Percentage of Gross Domestic Product for many countries.
The second link ranks in the same way but seems to include more countries.
Thirld world debt cancellation?
Who agrees that we should cancel debt owed by third world countries? Every year countries are forced to pay back debts. this money was borrowed in the 1970's when banks first opened with low interest rates. The money was wasted by corrupt governments. Now in 2008, the debt has been repayed but due to inflation and hiking up interest the countries are still paying money. Certain countries spend upto four times more on debt repayment than on the whole of the education. This isn't out of choice. More than $122billion has been payed back on top of the amount borrowed since 1999. This will now be much higher. We give money to charity and we want to end poverty but the way to do it is to cancel the debt and allow the countries to start again and put the money where it is needed. We don't really need it. Please sign the petition. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/DebtCancellation/
Also please can people give their views as well.
thanks
show some compassion abcdefg, they are fellow human beings and they have to pay bills but unlike you they don't get water etc. in return
retox, millions is not poured into africa. open your eyes. even if it was, about 10 billion dollars is taken out of one country a year
why are people argueing with me, i dont want you to donate i just want you to sign the petition. its free and will take about 1 minute of your time
I agree with third world debt cancellation on the whole...I do think it needs to be taken case by case. But in response - the world needs to recognize the tremendous effort and sacrifice that it would take on the part of the 1st world (western powers) to do so. This would mean a clean slate- no more handouts- brutal and real competition- the way the real world is...And maybe the thing to think about is that for some countries - the only incentive for them to build infrastructure and economic development were the conditions imposed by the world bank and IMF...
There should be a trade off we cancel the debt then stop the aid. Unfortunately however laudable our ideas the corruption in many of these countries will permanently prevent their movement forward to self reliance.
what are the implications of foreign debts to the sovereignty and economy of third world countries?
With all debt comes a set of "covenants". Private companies know this, since indebting themselves often means certain balance sheet, statement of operations or cash flow ceilings. It could even take the form of equity restrictions; these covenants are normally straightjackets that inhibit a company's day-to-day operation.
Likewise, third world countries adhere to a set of covenants in the form of government deficit ceilings, government spending restrictions, foreign exchange and / or interest rates controls maybe, and in general a very strict oversight of how money is spent by the public administration. On the other hand, the "servicing" of a debt (in the form of periodic interests that must be honored at a certain date(s) constitutes a drain of resources that otherwise could have been funneled to poverty reduction or the fight against AIDS.
Foreign debts have huge implications for the sovereignity and economy of underdeveloped nations.
Is the US now a Third World Country?
Serious question.
Are we now a third world country. I'm not talking about the fake money we print but the actual money we have if any. Are we actually poorer then a lot of countries because we are so much in debt?
I don't think you have to worry about the mexicans no more. America enocomy is doing so bad that Mexico is trying to put up it's own border to seperate it's self from us. People look down on America now that people are moving to other countries to accomplish their dreams. Are middle class is now in proverty no jobs, bussiness closing, homeless,no medicaid, no soical security. We are really a poor country know America has really fallen.
What is it about all these high paid celebs telling us what charity to give money to?
What is it about all these high paid "celebs" telling us what to do with our hard earnt money and who the hell do they think they are?
Most of them are MINOR OR HAS BEENS anyway, trying to make a comeback or name for themselves, not to mention shed loads of cash for THEMSELVES.
Then, Just to really p*** us off they throw in a Celeb like Bob Geldof or Bono, who have enough money themselves to clear most of the third world Countries debt out of their own pockets and still have enough change to buy several small countries and still never work another day.
The likes of Bob, Bono, Lenny Henry and Jamie oliver should stop telling us what to do with OUR MONEY
Helping these Countries is a good idea, But we as individuals should be able to give to whatever charities apeal to us and not what these rich or mega rich celebs tell us to, shouldn,t we?
I take it we're here talking about the red-nose rubbish. Well, sorry, but Lenny Henry only does it to keep his name from fading away totally - I mean, where ELSE do you ever hear of him nowadays ! As for Geldof and Co Ltd, more self publicity, and as for the very lovely and wonderful (Well, that's what HE thinks !) J Oliver telling us to buy TWO red noses from Sainsbury's, I'm sorry, but I really don't see why I should be asked to pay some of my hard earned and already well taxed wages to a country where they shag like rabbits using unsafe sex and then expect us to keep their multitude of children most of whom have AIDS. It's not MY fault - if some of the money sent to them in the past had been spent on condoms instead of being fraudulently removed by their politicians they wouldn't be in the state they are now ! ! !

I consider Wayne Hage one of the most intelligent men I ever met. On our very first visit he was explaining the World Bank, the International Monetary fund and how the world bankers planned on collateralizing the world debt with land. Not just the U.S. national debt, but the "WORLD" debt. A listener sent me a copy of a report of the FOURTH WORLD WILDERNESS CONGRESS, which was held in Denver in 1987. Over 1500 people from sixty countries were told that wilderness lands were to protect the reindeer, the spotted owl and other endangered species. Ninety percent of the group consisted of conservationists, ecologists, government and United Nations bureaucrats. The other ten percent were world banking heavyweights, such as David Rockefeller of Chase Manhattan Bank, London banker Edmund de Rothschild and the Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, James Baker, who gave the keynote address. George W. Hunt, an investment councilor, served as official host and sat in on all the meetings. It was George Hunt that wrote the report from which I have gleaned much of my information.
During the first three days, the group was told that the WILDERNESS CONGRESS was about beating the ozone deterioration and bringing the rain forests back. The following days were closed to the public. With only the bankers in attendance the topics discussed centered around the creation of a "WORLD CONSERVATION BANK" with collateral being derived from receipt of wilderness properties throughout the world. This bank would have central bank powers similar to the Federal Reserve. It would create currency and loans and engage in international discounting, counter-trade,...
