Here’s Standard & Poor’s assessment in their recent downgrading of the U.S. credit rating. S&P said: "Š our opinion (is) that the fiscal consolidation plan that Congress and the administration recently agreed to falls short of what Š would be necessary to stabilize the government’s medium-term debt dynamics."
No argument there. They kicked the can down the road to a supercommittee that is supposed to find the cuts and revenue enhancements needed to put the government on sounder economic footing. And all Republican members are pledged that additional tax revenues will not be part of the fix Š good luck with that.
But more tellingly, S&P commented on that
