Bank of China Posts Record First-Half Profit, Beating Analysts' Estimates Bloomberg
Bank of China Ltd., the nation’s third-largest lender by assets, said first-half profit jumped 28 percent to a record while bad debts dropped amid rising scrutiny of property loans and credit to local governments.
Net income rose to 66.5 billion yuan ($10.4 billion) from 52 billion yuan a year earlier, the Beijing-based company said in a Hong Kong stock exchange statement yesterday. Profit was in line with the 65.8 billion yuan median estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News. Bank of China and its Hong Kong unit rose today.
The state-run bank set aside more funds for defaults after China tightened requirements on property loans and credit to local governments. The stock is the worst performer among the nation’s five biggest lenders this year on concern that bad debts may rise after the bank’s credit growth outpaced that of larger rivals over the last two years.
“The sell-off in Chinese banks has been overdone,” Ivan Li, deputy head of Hong Kong research at Kim Eng Securities Hong Kong Ltd., said by telephone today. “Credit quality will deteriorate but situations might not be as bad as the share price has reflected.”

Collecting on a debt in London, when I'm in India?
A broker in London owes be 800 GBP for work I've done for websites. I've got a few friends in the UK. The broker is not willing to pay up. Would my friend's sending a debt collector on my behalf work? Is court the only way? 150 GBP for a lawyer per hour is ouch.
Why not apply to have him made bankrupt if he is a sole trader or the company wound up for failing to pay the debt.? I believe people get quite agitated when these sorts of proceeding are instituted.
Write to the broker and indicate that your solicitor has recommended you take this step if he has not paid you within 14 days. This may work.
Good luck!
If I was in this situation, I would be prepared to have this broker bankrupted, and pay the required solicitor and court fees to institute proceedings. If this person has any assets ( like a million pound house in the stockbroker belt in London) then he stands to lose them to pay his creditors.
where in London can i get a job as a debt collector? beating.intimidating people up for debts etc?
im 22 in and have been unemployed since i was 15 and need to make some cash. im currently taking lessons in english in mats hoping to get into college in september
I suggest you also take lessons on what the role of a debt collector is as it may have something to do with why you have been unemployed since 15 and why would you want a job which you stupidly think is about beating up and intimidating people? do yourself a favour and not only take English and what ever "mats" is but the full works i.e EDUCATION you may just then be prepared to undertake employment cause at the moment you appear confused.
