Nonprofit vs. for-profit health care: Debate hits home SouthCoastToday.com
TRACING THE HISTORYSaint Anne's and Southcoast Hospitals Group share deep local origins.
Southcoast — which comprises St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River and Tobey Hospital in Wareham — has beginnings in the 1880s.
In 1884, St. Luke's Hospital opened as an 11-bed hospital at what's now 491 Purchase St. At about the same time, a predecessor of Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River rose up some 15 miles to the northwest.
Fall River Hospital opened on Prospect Street in 1885, according to the book "Our Story: Charlton Health System" by David Eskes; that hospital, Eskes wrote, merged with the Fall River Emergency Hospital in 1900 to form Union Hospital, which would decades later consolidate with its rival, Truesdale Hospital. The Union-Truesdale Hospital was named the Charlton Memorial Hospital after a famous, locally philanthropic family that contributed $1 million to the hospital's building fund.

Can you recommend a Non Profit Debt Consolidation agency???
I just posted about co-signing for my husband who has horrible credit(25,000).. but got to thinking. We pay all of our bills on time NOW and he doesn't miss payments. The debt he has is old debt(charge offs). I just printed off a report for him on www.freecreditreport.com so I can figure it all out. Anyways, I want to find debt counseling or a debt consolidation agency that can help him clear it up. What site can you recommend?
Thanks!
Perhaps instead of a debt consolidation your in need of a credit repair company, as these old debts have been charged-off already.?
Why is it that debt consolidation agencies cause your debt to go up if you sign with them?
Are these agencies non-for-profit or not? Example: Credit Gaurd of America
To boost your credit score:
The first thing you will need to do is call the three major credit reporting agencies and request a free copy of your credit report.
www.equifax.com
www.experian.com
www.transunion.com
Then once you get those in the mail (7-10 days) there will be a dispute form attached to the reports. Fill those out for every negative account on your report regardless. Fax, mail go online whatever it takes to get those submitted as quickly as possible. Then those companies must answer your dispute within 30 days or it is removed from your credit report completely. So that will eliminate some things, hopefully.
Then make sure you pay all your revolving accounts to below 50% of your credit limits.
Make sure that you make all your payments no more than 20 days from the date it is due.
Good Luck!
They're actually a great idea. They have the ability to either reduce your finance charges if not eliminate them so that you are actually paying down your debt. In addition to that they have the ability to lower you monthly payments. Overall you're benefiting from using them even though it may cost $20 a month.

One of the problems with lowering you monthly payments is that it usually takes longer to get it paid off and getting it paid off should really be the goal.

Why would a creditor refuse to work with a non-profit organization?
I recently started working with a debt consolidation agency. I haven't started making payments to them yet. Yesterday I received a letter in the mail from one of my credit card companies saying that they refuse to accept the proposal from the consolidation agency because they are a 'non-profit organization'. Why would they refuse to work with an agency because they're non-profit?
It sounds pretty stupid to me, because you'd think they'd just want to get their money no matter how it got to them. I mean, I can't afford to pay the monthly amount they requested... that's why I'm working with a consolidation agency! It's just doesn't add up. =o/
Take the letter to the agency. This seems to be a way of the card company to reject your proposal. The reason makes no sense. Possibly someone was assigned the task of writing the letter who does not understand much. Let the agency deal with it.
The way to get a settlement proposal accepted is to default on the payments. As long as you are keeping up the payments the card companies are happy. As soon as the payments stop, they become more cooperative.
I know of a case in which $35,000 was forgiven from a total of $120,000 of credit card debts. But there was no cooperation until the debtor went into default.
Nonprofit Organization Credit Counseling Debt Consolidation
A nonprofit organization usually will have two main features associated with it: credit counseling and debt consolidation. This article will focus on explaining the difference between the two primary functions of a nonprofit debt consolidation company along with the importance of using a nonprofit debt consolidation company.
The first man function of a nonprofit debt consolidation company is debt consolidation. This is important because many people will often have many different credit cards and different debt associated with each particular card. If you are carrying a balance on four or five different credit cards and each one has a different interest rate and a different monthly minimum payment, how are you able to keep track of all of these different payments along with how much you owe on each of them? Debt consolidation is important as the nonprofit organization will work with the creditor to lower interest rates along with your monthly payments and will consolidate all of this into one simple payment for you. Much of the financial stress associated with debts comes from having the debt as well as how much work it takes to manage the debt. Most people are struggling to manage the debt so the benefits of having one simple payment are great.
The second main function of most nonprofit debt consolidation companies is to focus on credit counseling. It is important to work on consolidate your debt so that it is manageable but one of the main keys to take out of this article is to also look at how to manage the behaviors which created the debt in the first place. If you’ll work at managing and paying off the debt, how are you able to make sure that this situation does not happen again? An example for you to consider: many individuals have done debt consolidation loan using their home equity to save themselves money every month only to find themselves in a similar situation two to five years down the road. Credit counseling will help you in learning how to manage your debt more wisely and to prevent the situation from ever occurring again. These individuals are experts in this particular scenario and taking advantage of their expertise can allow you to make better decisions in your future. Credit counseling is usually free for you to use as well when working through a nonprofit organization.
