How a genial dentist made political history The State

Think Barry Goldwater.

Think Ronald Reagan.

Now you’re getting into Edwards’ way of thinking.

“Just about everything the Democrats do places more regulations on us,” Edwards says. “They feel like the answer to all our problems is another regulation. It’s even more apparent today. The same issues exist: Overregulation. Overspending. More giveaway programs. It used be welfare. Now they call it entitlements.”

Not that Edwards blames the Democrats for everything. He says the rise of the Tea Party, which he welcomes, is a result of Democrats overreaching and Republicans underachieving.

“Most of those Tea Party members, I believe, are Republicans disenchanted with the party’s lack of standing firmly with the fundamental principles of patriotism and balanced budgets,” Edwards says. “All the Tea Party wants to do is get America back to complying with the Constitution, something President Obama and all the Democrats have ignored for a good many years.”
